Reversible Baby Pants

Item: Reversible Baby Pants
Why I wanted to make this:  Baby pants are just so darn cute that I couldn’t resist another project! Also, I had several types of fabric that “go together” and wanted to get some good use out of them!
Items you’ll need:
– You are going to need to cut out two patterns of baby pants (four pieces of fabric).  I used a pair of Everett’s 0-6 month sized pants to make the pattern.
– 2″ of ribbon
– Elastic- measure around your baby’s waist to determine the length you need.  I used 17″ of  1/2″ elastic.
– Sewing machine with thread
How to do it:

From here you will sew the two pieces of fabric separately, as if they were two pairs of pants.

Sew the crotches together, then the pant legs. Make sure that when you sew the crotch, you don’t sew down the leg!

After you’ve sew the crotch and the legs together make sure that you press your seams- this will help to make your pants look nicer.

Next, turn the pants right side out and insert one pair of pants into the other.

To hem the pant legs you will turn the outter leg under first and then match up the inner leg.

Once they are matched up pin them in place and sew them together!

This is what it should look like after you’ve sewn them together. You may want to sew closer to the bottom of the pant leg to ensure that you get both pieces of fabric.

You will hem the waist just as you did the pants. If you want to distinguish a front and a back- make the hem in the front larger than the back.

I pinned a piece of ribbon in between the fabric in the back so I would know it was the back!

When you sew the top make sure you leave a few inches open to insert the elastic.

Next, sew another line of stitching below the top line to make a case for your elastic. I used 1/2″ elastic so I put my next line about 3/4″ down from the top stitch.

For Everett I use 17″ of elastic with a 1″ overlap. His waist isn’t quite that big yet but I want him to wear these for a while! Once you’ve put your elastic through the casing use a zig-zag stitch to bind the two together.

Stitch up the remainder of the top stitch and ta-da!
